Local cricket league enters playoff

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The Jakarta Cricket Association's 2003 - 2004 season has reached the playoff stages with the first round just completed. Four clubs competed last weekend to decide last two quarterfinal competitors.

The first match was played between Senayan CC and Ceylon CC; Ceylon CC batted first and scored 245 for 7 wickets in 35 overs, powered by an excellent innings by Raymund Shakespeare who scored 115. Senayan CC buckled under pressure and could only reach 187 for 9 in 35 overs.

The second qualifying match saw Rebels CC taking on India XI, and Cameron Knox's 104 helped the Rebels put up 225 for 6 in 35 overs and bowled out India XI easily for 135 in 29.3 overs. With Ceylon CC and Rebels CC winning their qualifying matches, they will now have to battle it out with Perkasa CC and West Java Wanderers from Bandung, respectively, to decide the last two spots in the semifinals.

Indorama CC and ISCI CC have already secured their semifinal spots by finishing on top of the regular season standings. The league championship finals will be played on May 2, followed immediately by the Jakarta Cricket Association's annual dinner, where Australian cricketer Dean Jones is expected to be the guest speaker.
