Local brands modernise lace fashion with youthful edge

Senior Director of Business Development at Shopee Indonesia, Adi Rahardja, said local fashion brands are driving the modernisation of lace products on the platform through mix-and-match methods to appear more youthful and capture market taste. ‘Many local brands on Shopee are becoming more expansive and adaptive in capturing market tastes. The hope is that mix-and-match techniques will enrich user choices, especially among the younger generation, in exploring their personal styles,’ he said in a written statement on Monday.

The introduction of new design variations aims to provide alternative ways to explore lace from old wardrobe collections, making them relevant for daily activities again. Where lace was once used for formal or neatly feminine looks, Gen Z is now taking it in a more expressive direction. Adi noted that the unique embroidery details on lace can enhance outfits to be more dimensional.

This year’s popular trend among Gen Z is layering lace skirts over trousers. These lace details peeking through can be paired with oversized tees or casual blazers with chinos, jeans, or baggy trousers to prevent daily outfits from looking monotonous. Another mix-and-match technique is wearing sleeveless outerwear, such as Shopatvelvet’s Veil Camisole, as a top layer over plain T-shirts. This technique aims to balance textures and colours to avoid plain daily wear.

Additionally, consumers can use long sleeve lace cardigans or long sleeve lace knits from COLORBOX as inner layers. Adi said more local brands on Shopee are introducing fresh, aesthetic, and affordable lace collections, from transparent lace tops and layering lace dresses to crochet-detail cardigans and coquette-style thin dresses. ‘Now is the time to experiment with your own personal style,’ he added. However, don’t be mistaken: lace trends for 2026 are no longer about formal or neatly feminine styles. It’s about blending nostalgia, self-expression, and courage in mix-and-match.
