JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia finished poorly at the 8th Coq French Archery Tournament in Montelimar, France which ended on Monday.
Rusena Gelanteh, the first national female archer to score the Olympic standard point of 1,302 during home training, was stopped at 150-134 in the quarterfinals by Nowtcka of Poland. Teammate Dahliana joined her after her 149-158 loss to South Korea's Yang Mi-joung.
In the men's events, Hendra Setijawan and Gatot Aryanto also made an early exit. Hendra's run ended in the final 16 round at the hand of South Korea's Choi Won Jong who won 158-156. Gatot succumbed to Giacomoni of Italy by a slight 150 (8/6) - 150 (8/9) edge.
Chairman of the Indonesian Archery Association Oetojo Oesman attributed the poor performance to the cold temperature of 10 degrees Celcius. "They still felt very cold even though they tripled their outfits. How could they perform well, then?" Oetojo said. (arf)
