"Lobang Buaya" film scheduled for release from 1 October 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Production houses Adhya Pictures and Dapur Films have released a teaser and poster for the film “Lobang Buaya”, which is scheduled to be shown in cinemas starting 1 October 2026.
The film directed by Hanung Bramantyo is set one year before the tragic events of 1965, which included mass killings and unrest.
“I thought again, what feeling do we experience when we hear about the events of ’65? The answer is horror,” said Hanung as quoted in a press release from production house Adhya Pictures in Jakarta on Friday.
“I chose horror not only because I want to make the audience feel the fear that exists within the story, but also the horror we feel from issues of power, corruption, and how humans can oppress one another,” he explained.
Before its release in Indonesia, the film “Lobang Buaya” was screened at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) 2026 in South Korea and the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2026 in the Netherlands.
Promotional materials for the film released on Friday show the efforts of Lieutenant Soegeng, played by Baskara Mahendra, to find the mastermind behind mysterious murders that occur every 30th of the month in the village.
“Through this film, you will follow every step Soegeng takes to find the mastermind behind this serial murder mystery,” said Baskara.
“I am confident that from every clue discovered, every victim who falls, the audience will be taken on a journey that is not only tense and exciting, but also makes us ask, who is the sinner in this story?” he said.
The cast list for “Lobang Buaya” also includes Carissa Perusset, Iskak Khivano, Anya Zen, and Mathias Muchus.
