JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The low multi-purpose vehicle (LMPV) market is once again buzzing with aggressive discount programmes in April 2026. Several brands are offering price cuts to boost sales, particularly for models that have been on the market longer or have stock from previous production years. This phenomenon reflects the increasingly tight competition in the LMPV segment, which has long been the backbone of family car sales in Indonesia. Each manufacturer is attempting to attract consumer interest with different strategies, from large discounts to maintaining stable prices on new models. “For the Veloz, there is no discount yet, as it has just launched. For the Avanza, the discount is Rp 16 million,” said one Toyota salesperson when contacted by Kompas.com recently. The largest discount comes from the South Korean manufacturer, Hyundai. The Hyundai Stargazer model is receiving a significant cut, especially for older units still available at dealer networks. Meanwhile, Daihatsu is providing more moderate incentives for the Daihatsu Xenia. The size of these discounts is considered standard compared to other competitors in its class. “For the Xenia, the discount is Rp 10 million,” said one Daihatsu salesperson. From other Japanese manufacturers, Suzuki is offering attractive deals for the Suzuki Ertiga, particularly for units with vehicle identification number (NIK) for 2026. This discount is one of the more competitive ones in the current LMPV segment. “For (Ertiga) NIK 2026, Rp 25 million (discount),” said one Suzuki salesperson. Mitsubishi Motors is also not left behind in offering price cuts for the Mitsubishi Xpander. The discount offered remains in the mid-range but is still appealing to consumers looking for a family car with complete features. “(Xpander) NIK 2026, discount of around Rp 15 million,” said one Mitsubishi salesperson. The magnitude of the discounts offered shows that stock and product cycles greatly influence each manufacturer’s pricing strategy. Older models or those with new refreshes tend to receive larger cuts to clear stock. This situation presents an opportunity for consumers who want to buy an LMPV at a more affordable price. However, prospective buyers still need to consider other factors such as features, usage needs, and resale value before making a decision.
