LLDikti XIV: 2026 KIP Kuliah Quota for Papua Set at 1,700 Students

The Higher Education Service Institution (LLDikti) for Region XIV has confirmed that the quota for the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) Kuliah scholarship programme allocated by the central government for Tanah Papua in the 2026 fiscal year is 1,700 prospective beneficiaries. Speaking in Manokwari, West Papua, on Tuesday, Head of LLDikti Region XIV Dr Suriel Samuel Mofu stated that the quota remains the same as in 2025, but represents a significant decrease from the 2024 allocation, which stood at 4,000 students. “This year’s KIP Kuliah quota for higher education institutions in Tanah Papua is the same as last year,” he said. He expressed hope that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology would increase the scholarship programme’s budget allocation to reach approximately 50 per cent of the 60,000 indigenous Papuan students spread across 76 campuses. “Indeed, the KIP Kuliah quota is still far from adequate because many students in Tanah Papua have not yet had the opportunity to receive it,” he noted. Despite this, Suriel emphasised that the distribution of KIP Kuliah scholarships is a strategic government measure to ensure that young Papuans across the six provinces no longer face difficulties accessing higher education due to financial constraints. The scholarship amount received by students from the ministry each semester is approximately Rp11.5 million for tuition fees, which is transferred directly to the campus account, with the remainder going to the respective beneficiaries’ accounts. “Since KIP Kuliah was launched by the ministry, the number of recipients has been around 16,000 out of 60,000 students at both public and private higher education institutions in Tanah Papua,” Suriel concluded.
