LLDIKTI Monitors Handling of Student Insult Case by Lecturer at IAKN Kupang
The Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (PPKPT) under LLDIKTI Region XV is monitoring the case of insult involving a lecturer at Institut Agama Kristen Negeri (IAKN) Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The lecturer with initials JS went viral for insulting students during an online lecture.
Coordinator of the PPKPT Task Force for LLDIKTI Region XV, Jasinta Florentina Pabha Swan, expressed regret over the alleged verbal violence by the lecturer in the campus environment. Jasinta stated that the campus should be a safe space for students in the teaching and learning process.
“It is very regrettable what the lecturer has done. That constitutes verbal violence and it must not occur in the campus environment,” said Jasinta via telephone on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
Jasinta mentioned that every campus is required to form a PPKPT Task Force in accordance with Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 55 of 2024. However, she is not yet aware if IAKN Kupang has formed such a task force.
According to Jasinta, her side will conduct monitoring and coordination regarding the handling of the insult case by the lecturer. Moreover, IAKN is under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and not the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
“So far, we at LLDIKTI XV have coordinated and communicated with the IAKN Kupang side. Our role is to monitor and coordinate,” she explained.
“The campus must be a safe, inclusive space free from violence for the entire academic community,” she concluded.
Previously, the IAKN lecturer with initials JS went viral for insulting students during an online lecture. The 2-minute 27-second insult video circulated widely on social media.
The video that spread shows JS teaching the Christian Religious Education Learning Strategies course. JS is heard calling students’ names one by one to check attendance.
However, when students responded present, he retorted by calling them stupid humans and animals. JS’s actions drew protests from netizens, especially since the video has been circulating since 22 April.
Rector of IAKN Kupang, I Made Suardana, stated that the lecturer has been suspended. That decision was taken after an internal examination process involving various institutional elements.
Suardana emphasised that the campus has worked intensively since the lecturer’s insult case against students first emerged. Those efforts were made to ensure every handling step is carried out objectively, data-based, and in accordance with provisions.
“This quick response is a form of the institution’s responsibility in upholding academic integrity while addressing the public’s significant attention to the case,” said Suardana on Monday (27/4/2026).
