LKBN ANTARA Educates on Railway Crossing Safety through FGD
The role of LKBN Antara is becoming very important, namely to amplify educational messages to the wider public so that safety can grow into a shared culture.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director General of Perum LKBN ANTARA, Benny Siga Butarbutar, revealed that ANTARA held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as part of providing education related to safety at railway crossings.
“The biggest challenge we face is also the still low public awareness of the importance of safety at railway crossings. This is where the role of LKBN Antara becomes very important, namely to amplify educational messages to the wider public so that safety can grow into a shared culture, not just compliance with rules,” said Benny during the FGD “Railway Crossing Management: Challenges, Solutions, and Collective Commitment” at the ANTARA Heritage Center, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Perum LKBN ANTARA held an FGD on railway crossing management, which is highly relevant when viewed from a social and cultural perspective.
The existence of illegal railway crossings is essentially a ticking time bomb. Every accident incident that the public reads about in the media is not just a statistic, but a reflection of lost human lives as well as significant social and economic losses.
“I think in the transportation industry, we must strive for what is called zero mistakes. That must be our standard; we must make this nation learn that there is great loss for this nation,” said Benny.
He stated that in communication strategy, there are three things that must be held onto. First, to secure understanding, ensuring that messages can be easily understood.
Second, messages in communication must secure acceptance. Accepted quickly without doubt or double meaning.
“If we must change, then change to become better,” said Benny.
Third, in strategic communication messages, it must motivate action. To build a collective action that is sustainable for greater good.
“Through this FGD forum, we very much hope to obtain various inputs, views, and recommendations from the presenters present, both from academics, observers, cultural experts, and railway enthusiast communities. We believe that cross-perspective discussions like this will produce more comprehensive and sustainable solutions,” said Benny.
He hopes that this forum will not only stop as a discussion space but also become the initial step in encouraging better, more dignified policies and real actions for better transportation safety in Indonesia in the future.
