LK21 and IndoXXI: Gateway for Thieves to Drain Bank Accounts – Check Legal Streaming Costs
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Many people use long weekends to relax by watching their favourite films. However, accessing illegal streaming sites such as LK21 and IndoXXI poses serious risks, from personal data theft to bank account draining.
The warning resurfaced after cybersecurity content creator Namsun Bertin, known as Mr. Bert, revealed a case of a woman allegedly losing up to Rp345 million after regularly accessing illegal streaming sites to watch Chinese dramas (dracin).
“These websites have money-stealing viruses. Just recently, a mother lost Rp345 million just watching a Chinese drama CEO film on the site,” Mr. Bert said in a social media video, cited from detikinet on Monday, 1 June 2026.
Malware Lurking Behind Free Films
According to Mr. Bert, illegal streaming sites are often infiltrated by dangerous malware, including infostealers that steal usernames and passwords, keyloggers that record keyboard activity, and banking trojans targeting banking and digital wallet data.
Moreover, many pirated sites rely on unverified aggressive advertising. Users often unknowingly click fake buttons or dangerous pop-ups that download malware onto their devices.
Therefore, users are advised to avoid illegal streaming sites, enable two-factor authentication (2FA), regularly update antivirus software and operating systems, and never share OTP codes with anyone.
Safe and Legal Streaming Platforms
As a safer alternative, the public can use legal streaming services that offer better data protection while supporting the creative industry.
Options include Netflix starting at Rp54,000 per month, Disney+ Hotstar starting at Rp39,000, Prime Video starting at Rp59,000, Max starting at Rp60,000, and Apple TV+ starting at Rp99,000.
Additionally, local and regional services such as Vidio starting at Rp29,000, WeTV starting at Rp33,000, Viu starting at Rp30,000, and iQIYI starting at Rp39,000 are available. For those seeking free options, CubMu offers thousands of films and TV channels at no cost.
Accessing legal platforms does require a subscription fee. However, this is far safer than risking personal data or bank funds lost to malware on illegal streaming sites.
