Liza, Wukirasih fined for absences

JAKARTA (JP): Singles players Liza Andriyani and Wukirasih Sawondari have been fined by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for missing tournaments.

The Indonesian Tennis Association deputy secretary-general, Subiyanto, said on Wednesday that Liza had been fined US$75 and had lost three points, and Wukirasih's points were reduced by 10 and must pay $250.

Liza canceled her participation in the $25,000 Challengers in England last June while Wukirasih missed four tournaments in the United States in September and October.

"If they don't pay the fines this week, they won't be allowed to compete in the second leg of Indonesia's Futures next week," Subiyanto said.

Liza was eliminated from the Futures' first leg after losing to Ekaterina Paniouchina 1-6, 5-7 Wednesday. Wukirasih is the only Indonesian to make it to the second round after beating senior Irawati Moerid Iskandar 6-1, 6-3. (yan)
