Liza marches into semis

JAKARTA (JP): Unseeded Indonesian Liza Andriani delighted her
home fans with a surprising win for a semifinal berth in the
Astra International junior tennis championships yesterday.

Playing her best tennis on clay, Liza breezed past Bryanne
Stewart 6-3, 6-2 for a meeting with Akiko Morigami of Japan. The
Japanese dashed the home crowd's hopes of seeing an all-
Indonesian girls' singles semifinal when she overpowered Vania
Prakusya 6-0, 6-0.

The other semifinal will pit Malaysian fourth seed Eline Chiew
against Japanese seventh seed Inue Maiko. The two are the only
seeded players left in the girls' singles competition.

In the men's singles, top seed Panja Saurav of India ended
Indonesian Eduardus Bawono's run with an easy 6-2, 6-1 win.
Saurav will now take on Sebastian Swierk of Australia, who beat
Parmar Arvind of Britain 6-2, 6-4. (amd)
