Living Alone, Buleleng Man Found Dead in Hut

Made Mudana, a resident of Suwug Village, Sawan District, was found dead in a hut on Gang Belibis, Penarukan Ward, Buleleng District, on Wednesday (5/8/2026). Mudana was a man who lived alone. The Buleleng Social Service for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (Dinsos P3A) stepped in to facilitate the handling and burial process of the body. This was done because Mudana had no family to make the arrangements. Head of the Buleleng Dinsos P3A, I Putu Kariaman Putra, said his team moved quickly after receiving a copy of a letter from the Suwug Village Government regarding a request for burial assistance on Wednesday (5/8/2026). “We immediately went to the location to ensure the handling of the body proceeded properly and received decent services,” said Kariaman. According to information gathered, Mudana was known to live alone and had no family to care for him. He frequently moved from place to place and often visited a hut belonging to his step-sibling on Gang Belibis, Penarukan. His health had reportedly declined in recent days due to a chronic illness. Before his death, Mudana had been homeless several times and had no permanent residence. The Buleleng Police identification team, which examined the body, confirmed there were no signs of violence or criminal activity. The examination results stated the victim died from a chronic illness. Kariaman revealed that Mudana had previously been detained three times by the Buleleng Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) for being homeless and moving from place to place. In handling this case, the Buleleng Dinsos P3A collaborated with the Singaraja Police, Penarukan Ward, Suwug Village officials, the Buleleng branch of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and the Buleleng Regional General Hospital (RSUD). The body was then facilitated for transfer to the Buleleng Regional General Hospital for temporary keeping while awaiting the burial process. Additionally, the Social Service coordinated with the Buleleng Traditional Village to determine a ‘dewasa ayu’, or auspicious day, for the burial in accordance with local customs. “Handling the death of a displaced citizen is a form of government concern and responsibility. We ensure the entire process is carried out humanely through coordination with the police, village government, PMI, hospital, and traditional village so that the body receives proper handling and burial in accordance with applicable regulations,” Kariaman stressed.
