Literary award for Mangunwijaya
JAKARTA (JP): A noted novelist and architect, Y.B. Mangunwijaya, will receive a literary award this month.
The Yogyakarta-based priest, whose works include Burung-burung Manyar, is scheduled to receive the Professor Teeuw award on May 15 at the Erasmus Huis Dutch Cultural Center.
The Professor Teeuw Funds Foundation, after which the award is named, was set up in 1992 in honor of A. Teeuw, a Dutch scholar well known here for his studies on Indonesian literature.
Organizers of the award presentation, delivered once in two years, said Mangunwijaya was selected not only because of his literary works, but also because of his social concerns.
He is also known for the houses he has designed for the poor along the Code River in Yogyakarta. (anr)
