List of Work Sectors Not Participating in the One-Day-a-Week WFH Policy
The government has officially established a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) effective every Friday from April 2026. However, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that certain work sectors are excluded from this WFH policy and must continue working from the office or in the field. “There are sectors exempted from WFH and required to work from the office or in the field,” Airlangga said during a press conference on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. The sectors in question, according to Airlangga, include public services such as health, security, and cleanliness. Additionally, strategic sectors like industry or production, energy, water, staple food and beverages, trade, transportation, logistics, and finance. “The education sector will continue face-to-face learning activities normally, in all levels from primary to secondary education for five days a week, with no restrictions on sports activities related to achievements or other extracurriculars,” Airlangga stated. “Meanwhile, for higher education from semester 4 onwards, it will adjust according to the circular from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology,” he added. Previously reported, the government officially set the WFH policy for ASN one day per week. This ASN WFH policy takes effect in April 2026. “The implementation of work from home for ASN in central and regional agencies is carried out for one working day per week, namely every Friday,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto during a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. Airlangga explained that this WFH policy is an adaptive and preventive measure taken by the government to address global dynamics. The WFH policy is part of a work culture transformation that encourages more efficient, productive, and digitally-based work behaviour changes. Airlangga clarified that the ASN WFH policy is implemented through a Circular Letter (SE) from the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (MenPANRB) and the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri).
