List of Student Demonstrations Held Today
A number of university students from various campuses in several regions will hold demonstrations on 15 June 2026. This action is part of a series of protests expressing student dissatisfaction with economic policies and President Prabowo Subianto’s free nutritious meals programme and ‘Red and White’ village cooperatives.
In Jakarta, at least two actions will be held at the Presidential Palace. The first action is led by the Student Executive Body (BEM) of Bung Karno University together with other campuses. This action carries the theme ‘Reorganise Indonesia’. BEM UBK will present six demands, including urging the government to temporarily suspend and evaluate the free nutritious meals programme and the Red and White Village Cooperatives; review the National Police Law; stop militarism and uphold civilian supremacy.
Furthermore, BEM UBK is also urging the government to take strategic steps to maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate and national economic resilience; demanding the government provide inclusive, quality, and affordable education rights for all Indonesian people; and finally, reviewing the increase in fuel prices because it burdens the public.
Chairman of BEM Faculty of Law UBK, M. Abdi Maludin, said the ‘Reorganise Indonesia’ action was the result of a consolidation of UBK student organisations on Saturday, 13 June 2026. According to Abdi, this consolidation was carried out after BEM’s internal study concluded that the country is in a slump. This condition is marked by various demands emerging, from the discourse of a ‘Second Reformation’ to actions demanding the free meals programme be stopped.
‘So, we from BEM Bung Karno University consolidated with the indicator that the country today must rise from the slump that is currently ongoing,’ Abdi told Tempo on Sunday, 14 June 2026. Abdi estimated that around 200 people from UBK will take to the streets. However, this number could be higher with the joining of BEM Pamulang University and Muhammadiyah University Jakarta, which have said they will join the action tomorrow.
Besides BEM UBK, the Paramadina University Student Union will also take to the streets today. The Paramadina University Student Union is carrying the call for a ‘Second Reformation’. Via its Instagram account, the Paramadina University Student Union brings five demands, including stabilising the rupiah exchange rate by stopping state budget waste and evaluating the populist programmes of free nutritious meals and red and white village cooperatives. They also demand the government lower fuel and staple food prices; demand President Prabowo and his ranks stop evading and admit their failures; cancel the revision of the National Police Law; and stop militarisation in civilian spheres.
The Paramadina University Student Union will hold an action at the Presidential Palace at 1:00 PM WIB, with a meeting point at the Nurcholis Madjid University Paramadina lobby.
Actions will also be held outside Jakarta. In Central Java, the Semarang branch of the Islamic Student Association (HMI) is also holding an action today. Quoted from its Instagram, HMI Semarang is carrying the call for a ‘Second Reformation’. They are inviting all HMI cadres to join the demonstration to topple Prabowo-Gibran at 10:00 AM WIB. The action will be held at all central points in Semarang City, with a meeting point at the HMI Semarang branch secretariat.
Campuses outside Java will also hold actions today. One of them is the Student Executive Body of the University of North Sumatra (BEM USU). BEM USU will bring six issues in its action, namely energy and fuel price increases; the national economy; security regulations (the National Police Bill); evaluation of the free meals programme; the education budget; and finally, environmental and agrarian issues. The action will be held at 12:00 PM WIB, with a meeting point at the USU Student Government Secretariat. The action point is at the North Sumatra Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) Building.
Another campus in Sumatra that will hold an action today is the Student Executive Council (Dema) of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, South Sumatra. Through its Instagram account, Dema UIN Raden Fatah calls this action ‘Indonesia Darurat’ (Indonesia in Emergency). The meeting point is the UIN Raden Fatah basketball court at 8:00 AM WIB, with the demonstration point at the South Sumatra DPRD Building.
Dema UIN Raden Fatah brings six demands in this action, including giving a 7x24 hour ultimatum to President Prabowo and the Governor of South Sumatra to ensure the stability of staple food prices down to the most remote areas; rejecting the increase in fuel prices and anticipating the disappearance of subsidised fuel in the regions. They also demand the government save the rupiah as a symbol of national economic sovereignty; reject the free nutritious meals programme and red and white village cooperatives, which are considered premature and need to be comprehensively reviewed; urge the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill as a concrete step in eradicating corruption; and finally, reject the National Police Law and condemn repressive actions by security forces against the masses expressing opinions in public.
