Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, has officially announced the Work From Home (WFH) policy, which will take effect immediately after the 2026 Eid al-Fitr period. This policy is designed as a strategic national step to achieve energy efficiency amid the surge in global oil prices due to geopolitical tensions. Based on the latest March 2026 data, here is a breakdown of the affected sectors and those exempted.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi emphasised that strategic sectors directly related to the economy and public services must operate 100% in offices or on-site, including:
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that implementing WFH one day per week is projected to save up to 20% of national Fuel Oil (BBM) consumption per day. “This is a rough calculation to maintain balance between productivity and energy efficiency amid global pressures,” said Purbaya in Jakarta (21/3/2026).
The government is currently finalising technical regulations through coordination with the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to ensure uniform implementation at the regional level.
Apindo General Chair Shinta Widjaja Kamdani assessed that the plan to implement WFH one day per week after Eid cannot be applied simultaneously.
