List of Rudy Mas’ud’s Relatives Holding Strategic Positions in East Kalimantan, from Wife to Nephews

Allegations of a political dynasty in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) are currently under the spotlight. The name of East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud has been highlighted amid controversies over regional policies, as well as the emergence of several family members holding strategic positions in government and organisations. This phenomenon is said to be one of the reasons why thousands of East Kalimantan residents staged demonstrations in front of the Governor’s office on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. The demonstration, involving students and civil society, put forward three main demands, one of which was the cessation of corruption, collusion, and nepotism (KKN) practices in East Kalimantan. Here is a list of seven relatives of Rudy Mas’ud known to hold important positions: 1. Rudy Mas’ud – Governor of East Kalimantan Rudy Mas’ud serves as the head of the region and holds executive control at the provincial level. He is also active in political party structures and national organisations. 2. Hasanuddin Mas’ud – Chairman of the East Kalimantan DPRD Rudy Mas’ud’s older brother holds the position of regional legislative leader, which functions to oversee provincial government policies. 3. Rahmad Mas’ud – Mayor of Balikpapan Another sibling of Rudy leads one of the largest cities in East Kalimantan and has been re-elected for a second term. 4. Syahariah Mas’ud – Member of the East Kalimantan DPRD Still from the core family, Syahariah serves as a member of the East Kalimantan DPRD for the 2024–2029 period. 5. Syarifah Suraidah – Member of the DPR RI Rudy Mas’ud’s wife sits in the national parliament and is also active as Chair of the Indonesian Community Sports Committee (KORMI) East Kalimantan. 6. Hijrah Mas’ud – Governor’s Expert Team Rudy Mas’ud’s younger brother is recorded as Deputy Chair of the Governor’s Expert Team for the Acceleration of Development (TAGUPP) East Kalimantan. 7. Syarifah Asmawati – Bureaucratic Official of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government A relative from the wife’s side holds the position of Head of General Administration Section, General Bureau, Regional Secretariat of East Kalimantan Province. The phenomenon of numerous family members in strategic positions has given rise to the term ‘East Kalimantan Dynasty,’ which is widely discussed in society.
