List of Regions with Sleep-Deprived Residents, Including Jakarta
The fulfilment of sleep requirements among Indonesia’s population varies significantly by region. Jakarta is among the areas where residents suffer from insufficient sleep. This raises the question: which regions have the most adequate sleep patterns?
Data regarding sleep duration is reflected in the 2022 Health Statistics released by BPS (Statistics Indonesia). This remains the most recent available data, as no subsequent surveys on sleep patterns have been conducted. Standard sleep requirements vary by age; for instance, individuals aged 18-40 require 7-8 hours per day, while those aged 60 and above require 6 hours per day. Sleep deprivation is known to pose various health threats, ranging from loss of focus while driving to an increased risk of obesity and non-communicable diseases.
From the data, several interesting findings emerged. Notably, residents in rural areas (80.95 per cent) have a higher percentage of meeting their sleep requirements compared to urban residents (75.95 per cent). When analysed by gender, women (80.20 per cent) in Indonesia tend to meet their sleep needs more frequently than men (75.90 per cent).
Nationally, 78.05 per cent of the Indonesian population meets their required sleep duration. However, there are significant regional disparities, with some provinces recording very high rates of sleep fulfilment (above 85%), while others show low rates of adequate sleep. Jakarta is included in the latter group.
