List of public holidays in August 2026: Independence Day and Prophet Muhammad's Birthday
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The public can enjoy two national holidays in August 2026, namely the commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence and the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The government established the schedule through a Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) of Three Ministers on National Holidays and Collective Leave Days for 2026.
Based on the decree issued by the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of State Apparatus Utilisation and Bureaucratic Reform, the government designated a total of 17 national holidays and eight collective leave days throughout 2026. Of these, two public holidays fall in August 2026.

- Monday, 17 August 2026 (81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia)
The 17th of August is a national holiday commemorating the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In 2026, the commemoration marks the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence.

- Tuesday, 25 August 2026 (Birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW)
The government has also designated Tuesday, 25 August 2026 as a national holiday to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW, which coincides with 12 Rabiul Awal 1448 in the Islamic calendar.
The commemoration of the Prophet’s birthday is one of the major Islamic religious observances included in Indonesia’s list of national holidays.
No additional collective leave in August 2026
Although there are two national holidays, the government has not designated any additional collective leave days in August 2026. This means that those wishing to enjoy a longer break will need to use their annual leave entitlement in accordance with the policies of their respective companies or institutions.
