List of Official Electric Motorcycle Conversion Workshops in Indonesia
The government has launched an electric motorcycle conversion programme, partnering with several authorised workshops. There are currently dozens of official electric motorcycle conversion workshops operating in Indonesia.
During the 19th Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the Fifth Period of the 2025-2026 Session on Wednesday (20/5/2026), President Prabowo Subianto reiterated the government’s intention to convert conventional vehicles, integrated with other projects.
This cross-sector integration is deemed crucial to ensure future vehicle energy supply remains environmentally friendly.
“We will accelerate solar power production. We have announced plans to build 100 GW of solar capacity within three years,” Prabowo said.
“We will combine this with the conversion of motorcycles and cars from fuel to electric. God willing, we will eliminate dependence on fuel imports and save foreign exchange,” he added.
Converted electric motorcycles must not be road-ready without proper certification; they require a Type Test Certificate (SUT) and Vehicle Type Test Certificate (SRUT).
The standardisation process is governed by government regulations, specifically Minister of Transportation Regulation No. PM 65 of 2020 on Converting Internal Combustion Engine Motorcycles to Battery-Powered Motorcycles.
Under this regulation, any vehicle modified to run on electric power must undergo rigorous testing before new registration documents are issued.
Currently, several workshops have received approval to conduct electric motorcycle conversions, including certain universities and campuses.
