List of Miscalculations and Failures of Trump-Netanyahu to Subdue Iran
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump’s latest statement on postponing an attack on Iran’s power facilities is the opposite of the victory slogans he had previously boasted about. Instead of successfully and quickly subduing Iran, Trump has become trapped in a war described as being for Israel’s interests.
Several war targets that he once mentioned have not been achieved recently, while more than 1,500 Iranian citizens, including over 200 children, have become martyrs; more than a thousand Lebanese citizens have been killed by Israel in its aggression against Hezbollah, Iran’s ally; and energy facilities across the Gulf are ablaze, causing a surge in global energy costs.
One reason for attacking Iran, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is for Israel’s security, a US ally. According to him, Israel and the US attacked first because they suspected Iran would launch an attack on the Zionist entity.
The US-Israel attack on Iran on 28 February has instead fulfilled that prophecy itself. Not a single day since then has the Palestinian territory annexed to become the state of Israel been safe from Iranian missile and drone attacks.
Dozens of Israeli citizens have been reported killed. However, it is no secret that the Israeli government imposes strict censorship regarding the impact of Iranian attacks. News of the Iranian attacks only leaks through monitoring in Jordan.
The most severe blow to Israel occurred when Iranian missiles successfully breached Israel’s “advanced” air defences in the nuclear city of Dimona and its neighbour Arad. Buildings collapsed, and thousands of Israeli citizens were hospitalised.
After the US-Israel attack, instead of becoming a safe country, Israeli citizens are continuously startled by missile attack warning sirens and have to repeatedly hide in bunkers.
What Israel also did not expect was that Hezbollah, Iran’s ally, joined in attacking Israel, cancelling the ceasefire achieved last year. Facing those attacks, Israel has resumed military operations in southern Lebanon, which have now claimed around a thousand lives.
Israel has also launched a ground operation into Lebanese territory, an action that will drain the human and financial resources of the Zionist state.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Jordan reported that people in Israel are increasingly accustomed to a daily routine punctuated by siren sounds. They have to keep running to shelters, watching missiles incoming, interceptions, and fires breaking out everywhere.
In the north, this happens almost constantly. They barely get a chance to rest after leaving the bunker before running back in.
