List of five Indonesian citizens detained by Israeli soldiers during Gaza humanitarian mission

Five Indonesian nationals who joined the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia’s humanitarian mission, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2026 to Gaza, were detained by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). The five are Rahendro Herubowo, Andre Prasetyo Nugroho, Thoudy Badai, Bambang Noroyono alias Abeng, and Andi Angga Prasetya. They were distributed across several ships intercepted by the Israeli military. Rahendro, Thoudy and Andre boarded the Ozgurluk, Abeng was aboard the BoraLize, and Andi Angga was on the Josef. All three ships were intercepted by the IDF. Four of the five are journalists: Abeng and Thoudy are journalists for Republika; Andre is from Tempo; and Hery is an iNews journalist. Angga is a humanitarian activist from Rumah Zakat. ‘Their current whereabouts are unknown. The SOS message recorded before their humanitarian ship was intercepted and hijacked as it attempted to break through the Gaza blockade,’ wrote GPCI on its official Instagram @globalpeaceconvoy, Tuesday (19/5). In addition to the five, four other Indonesians are now at risk of interception: Herman Budianto and Ronggo Wirasanu on the Zapyro; Asad Aras Muhammad and Hendro Prasetyo on the Karsl. Their SOS messages circulated, suggesting they have been captured by the Israeli army. Separately, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the actions. Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang urged the Israeli government to immediately release all vessels and crew involved in the international humanitarian mission and to ensure continued delivery of aid to the Palestinian people in accordance with international humanitarian law. The ministry is also preparing contingency plans for the repatriation of the nine Indonesians. She stressed that the protection of Indonesian citizens remains a government’s top priority and said the government continues to engage with various parties to obtain the latest information on the Indonesians’ conditions.
