List of Figures Who Have Served as TNI Territorial Chief of Staff, Including Indonesia's 6th President

The position of Territorial Chief of Staff (Kaster) TNI has been reactivated after being abolished in 2001, specifically during the tenure of Indonesia’s fourth president, Abdurrahman Wahid, also known as Gus Dur. The position was eliminated because the then-Kaster TNI, Lieutenant General Agus Widjojo, was slated for appointment as Deputy Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) from the TNI/Polri faction. He served from 1999 to 2001. Following the abolition of the Kaster TNI position, territorial functions at the TNI Headquarters level were managed through the structure of the Territorial Assistant (Aster) to the TNI Commander. Referring to the Presidential Regulation on the TNI’s organisational structure, the TNI Territorial Staff assists the Commander in carrying out staff functions in the field of territorial defence activities and empowerment to realise deterrence and support capabilities in the region as part of supporting the TNI’s main duties. The TNI Territorial Staff is led by the Territorial Assistant to the Commander, who is positioned under and accountable to the Commander. The Territorial Assistant to the Commander is assisted by the Deputy Territorial Assistant to the Commander. Now, with the reactivation of the Kaster TNI position, the organisational structure in the territorial field has also undergone adjustments. In a recent rotation decision, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto has appointed Lieutenant General Bambang Trisnohadi as Kaster TNI, who previously served as Commander of the Joint Regional Defence Command (Pangkogabwilhan) III.
