Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has assured that electricity tariffs for the second quarter (April-June) 2026 will not see any increases. This policy is part of the government’s efforts to safeguard public purchasing power.

Acting Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of ESDM, Tri Winarno, stated that the decision not to raise electricity tariffs is based on prevailing regulations and takes into account the economic conditions of the public.

“The public need not worry, as the government has set the electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 to remain the same,” Tri said, quoted on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

In accordance with Ministry of ESDM Regulation No. 7 of 2024 on Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero), the evaluation and adjustment of electricity tariffs for 13 non-subsidy customer groups are conducted every three months based on changes in actual macroeconomic parameters, including the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar, the Average Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Coal Reference Price (HBA).

For setting the tariffs in the second quarter of 2026, the macroeconomic parameters used are the actual figures from November 2025 to January 2026, namely an exchange rate of Rp16,743.46 per US$, ICP of US$62.78 per barrel, inflation of 0.22%, and HBA of US$70 per tonne in line with the domestic market obligation (DMO) coal policy.

Based on calculations from these parameters, the electricity tariff formula could potentially lead to changes. However, to maintain industrial competitiveness, public purchasing power, and national economic stability amid global conditions, the government has decided to keep electricity tariffs unchanged. The same applies to the 25 subsidy customer groups, which will also see no changes.

In addition, the Ministry of ESDM is encouraging PT PLN (Persero) to continue ensuring the reliability of electricity supply, improving service quality to customers, and optimising operational efficiency to guarantee reliable and sustainable electricity provision.
