JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The government has officially implemented Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). The regulation requires digital platforms to limit children’s access according to age and to strengthen the protection of children’s personal data. PP Tunas takes effect from 28 March 2026, and every digital platform entity operating digitally is obliged to comply with the provisions of the regulation. Several platforms have complied with this rule, but some others have not yet shown a cooperative attitude in protecting children in the digital space in line with PP Tunas. “Platform X has announced a change in the minimum age limit to 16 years, and this was done well in advance, namely since 17 March 2026, as stated on the help centre page,” said during a press conference at the Komdigi Office, Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026). Bigo Live has also raised the age limit to 18 years and over and has submitted a request to update that age restriction to the App Store. “Bigo Live, which has made adjustments to the age limit to 18 plus in the user agreement or user content and also the privacy policy security policy, and has submitted a request to update the age limit to the App Store or application store,” added Meutya. Meanwhile, TikTok and Roblox have expressed partial cooperative attitudes. “They are requesting an extension or a little additional time, and this is indeed what we are also asking for to complete their compliance as soon as possible,” she said. On the other hand, there are four digital platforms that have not stated compliance with PP Tunas, namely YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Meutya stated that there is no compromise for platforms that violate the rules. The government is still awaiting compliance from those four applications.
