Economic growth is often linked to equitable internet access. Achieving this requires adequate infrastructure and affordable internet tariffs for the public.

According to the ‘Global Broadband Price League 2026’ report, Indonesia is one of the countries with relatively affordable internet tariffs.

Compared to other Southeast Asian countries, Indonesia ranks second as the nation with the cheapest internet tariffs. The average price for fixed broadband in Indonesia is US$10.66 (Rp183,000) per month.

Indonesia only trails Vietnam, where the average fixed broadband price is around US$10.24 (Rp175,000) per month. Meanwhile, other Southeast Asian countries charge significantly higher prices.

Myanmar sets an average fixed broadband price that is more expensive, at US$20.12 (Rp345,000). Cambodia charges US$30 (Rp515,000), Singapore US$30.74 (Rp528,000), the Philippines US$34.16 (Rp586,000), and Malaysia US$37.98 (Rp652,000) per month.

Globally, Indonesia holds the 12th position as the country with the cheapest internet tariffs. Vietnam is in 11th place. Other Southeast Asian countries rank much lower: Myanmar (36), Cambodia (64), Singapore (67), the Philippines (78), and Malaysia (87).

Iran Has the Cheapest Internet in the World

In the ‘Top 5’ countries with the cheapest internet tariffs worldwide, Iran tops the list. The report notes that this is partly due to the weak real exchange rate against the US dollar, making prices appear much cheaper.

Iran’s internet infrastructure is heavily supported by government subsidies. This also bolsters the National Information Network (NIN). NIN is a state-controlled intranet that operates independently and separately from the global internet.

The average monthly internet tariff in Iran is set at US$2.61, equivalent to Rp44,000 per month. Next, in second place, is Ukraine with an average monthly internet tariff of US$5.35 (Rp91,000).

The next cheapest countries include Ethiopia in third place (US$6.46), Bangladesh in fourth (US$7.38), and Mongolia in fifth (US$7.41).
