A number of student executive bodies from various campuses and student movement organisations will join the ‘Indonesia Bangkrut’ (Indonesia Bankrupt) protest organised by BEM UI at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, Central Jakarta, on 12 June 2026. BEM UI Chairperson Yatalathof Ma’shum Imawan stated that all 15 faculty-level BEMs within UI will participate in the action. Additionally, eight other campus BEMs and allied movement organisations are set to join. They include the IPB University Student Family BEM, Jakarta State Polytechnic BEM, Pancasila University BEM, the Gunadarma BEM Alliance, the National Students’ Front (FMN) Central Board, FMN UI, Pembebasan, and the Progressive Students Union UI (Semar UI). “Some organisations and movement nodes that took part in the national consolidation at UI Campus yesterday (10 June 2026) are still confirming their attendance,” said Athof, as he is known, on Thursday, 12 June 2026. Athof said detailed plans regarding the number of participants will be finalised at a technical meeting this evening. The Indonesia Bangkrut protest will be held at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, with the gathering point at the FISIP UI field in Depok, West Java, at 10:00 WIB. Participants are asked to wear yellow jackets and black shirts. The Indonesia Bangkrut protest is the result of a national consolidation held by BEM UI with a campus alliance from across Greater Jakarta at the UI Pusgiwa building in Depok, West Java, on 10 June 2026. The consolidation resulted in five demands to be voiced at tomorrow’s protest, including demanding President Prabowo Subianto halt the free nutritious meal (MBG) project and the red-and-white village cooperatives scheme. Additionally, BEM UI is demanding Prabowo stop state budget (APBN) wastage, lower staple food and fuel oil (BBM) prices, and end militarism in civilian spaces. “Prabowo must also stop evading and admit the government’s mistakes,” Athof said in a statement on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. The demands were formulated in response to Indonesia’s current economic and democratic problems. According to Athof, Indonesia is a wealthy country, yet its people are far from prosperous. He claimed economic growth has even collapsed and government policies are reinforcing that collapse. “Fiscal policy is leaking, BI’s independence has been seized. Not to mention the government’s communication with the public is far from decent,” he said. He sees the government as being in denial about the current situation, degrading the struggles and criticism voiced by the people. “State apparatus is also being used as a tool to silence those who speak out,” he added.
