Indonesia’s Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) has announced that multiple international airlines have cancelled their flights due to escalating conditions in the Middle East following military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that he has received reports of several airlines suspending operations, with most cancellations affecting routes transiting the Middle East region.

“The airlines that have cancelled or suspended flights include Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Indigo Airlines, Srilankan Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Scoot,” Dudy said in a statement on Sunday (1 March 2026).

“Saudia Airlines is currently monitoring several destinations in the Middle East, whilst Ethiopian Airlines continues operating normally but has suspended flights to Amman (Jordan) and Tel Aviv (Israel),” he added.

Dudy noted that several domestic airlines continue normal operations, serving routes to Jeddah and Amsterdam.

“Meanwhile, two domestic airlines operating through Middle East airspace—Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air—have not yet been affected by the conflict. Flights to Jeddah remain unaffected, whilst Garuda Indonesia’s flights to Amsterdam are being rerouted via Cairo (Egypt),” he explained.

The Minister emphasised that aviation safety and security must remain the top priority. The Ministry of Transport is coordinating with Airnav Indonesia, airlines, airport operators, and foreign authorities to update information on Middle East airspace security and ensure safe and smooth operations.

“Several countries have closed their airspace to all incoming and outgoing flights, both commercial and private. These include Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and Syria,” he stated.

“We have coordinated with airlines to monitor Middle East airspace conditions, including for Umrah travel,” he added.

Dudy called on airlines and airport operators to provide proper handling for affected passengers in accordance with established procedures, ensuring they receive adequate assistance.

“This includes the cancellation documentation process at Immigration, accommodation arrangements, and flight rescheduling,” he emphasised.

The Minister urged all airlines to heighten their vigilance and promptly communicate any information and developments.

“We call on airlines to increase their alertness, and passengers should actively monitor information updates,” he said.

Dudy also assured that flight operations at all airports in Indonesia, particularly for international routes, will continue safely, smoothly, and optimally for both passenger departures and arrivals.
