Lisbon governor in town

JAKARTA (JP): Lisbon Governor Jose Antonio dos Soares met
Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso at the City Hall on Wednesday, as a
follow-up to their meeting when they attended a conference on
sister cities in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, last month.

"I believe that the Lisbon governor's visit will tighten the
relationship between Portugal and Indonesia. We did not discuss
political matters during the meeting, but only our relationships
in sports and cultural events," Sutiyoso said.

He also said that he informed Soares about Jakarta's condition
after recent lootings and burning, following the death of
students in shooting last week.

During his stay here since Nov. 16, Soares visited Taman Mini
Indonesia Indah park in East Jakarta.

According to Antara, Soares was scheduled to meet President
B.J. Habibie, go to the old Sion church in West Jakarta and visit
jailed East Timor rebel Jose Alexandre "Xanana" Gusmao at
Cipinang prison, East Jakarta.

Sutiyoso and Soares would again have an official meeting on
Friday to continue talks about sporting and cultural affairs.
