Lirboyo Pesantren Declares Readiness to Host NU's 35th Congress

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The prospect of Pondok Pesantren Lirboyo in Kediri becoming the host for the 35th Muktamar of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) is gaining strength. In response to various proposals that have emerged, Lirboyo has stated its readiness should it truly be entrusted with the mandate.

Spokesperson for Pondok Pesantren Lirboyo, KH Oing Abdul Muid Shohib or Gus Muid, conveyed appreciation for the support from various parties proposing the pesantren as the venue for NU’s highest forum.

“Pondok Pesantren Lirboyo extends thanks to the various parties who have proposed that Lirboyo host the upcoming 35th NU Muktamar,” said Gus Muid when contacted by Republika on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

Nevertheless, he emphasised that no official request has been received by the pesantren to date. Therefore, Lirboyo has not yet specifically discussed the plan in its internal forums.

“However, given the great affection of Lirboyo’s masyayikh for the Nahdlatul Ulama organisation, if it is ultimately appointed and trusted, insyaAllah Lirboyo is ready to carry out the mandate,” he said.

Gus Muid added that Lirboyo has experience in organising NU’s Muktamar, namely in 1999. Moreover, in terms of facilities and infrastructure, the pesantren’s current condition is deemed more adequate to support the national-scale event.

“As for the official decision, we all await the results of the Grand Conference (Konbes), which according to information will be held this April,” said Gus Muid.
