Lions Club to hold charity bazaar

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Lions Club will hold a three-day charity bazaar at which free health checks will be conducted, and 250 packages of basic commodities distributed to poor residents of Pegangsaan subdistrict, Central Jakarta.

Club president Arleen Djohan said on Friday that 200 mothers and babies in the area would be entitled to the check ups, which would include pap smears for the women.

"The three-day bazaar will take place at Darmawangsa Square, South Jakarta, from Dec. 3 to Dec. 5. Various goods will be for sale, from electronic appliances to clothes. We hope around 2,000 people will come," she said.

She added that the club was expecting to raise at least Rp 30 million (US$3,333) from the bazaar, which would assist poor people suffering from respiratory problems in Plumpang, North Jakarta, as well as Kiwanis Orphanage in Bojong, Bogor. -- JP
