Lions Club feeds some 700 orphans

JAKARTA: Lions Club Jakarta Cendana in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, gathered and fed on Monday around 700 orphans from around a dozen of orphanages across the city at the Paramount restaurant in Gondangdia, Central Jakarta.

Maria Gunawan, president of the club, said the activity was part of their annual programs to serve society and help disadvantaged children in Jakarta.

"Besides giving the children meals, we gave them a package containing books, pens, and clothes, so that they have something to use in their schools. Each of them was also given Rp 10,000 (US$1.1)," Maria told The Jakarta Post.

She added that the club held the activity for the children of Islamic, Buddhist and Christian orphanages. -- JP
