Lionel Messi Seriously Pursues Property Business

Global football megastar Lionel Messi is once again expanding his business reach off the pitch. This time, the Inter Miami CF forward is reportedly turning his attention to the premium property sector in Barcelona, Spain. Through his affiliated company, Edificio Rostower, Messi has completed the purchase of the former Via Wagner gallery in the exclusive Turó Park district of Barcelona. According to Marca on Thursday, 21 May 2026, the deal is €11.5 million, or around IDR 235 billion, based on an exchange rate of Rp 20,516 per euro. The building, which spans about 4,000 square metres, had long been derelict and closed since 1993 after the previous owners failed to agree. Upon acquisition, Messi is said to plan a substantial renovation, with the building to be repurposed entirely for commercial rental. The asset’s location in one of Barcelona’s premium areas is cited as a key draw, with several major financial-sector companies reportedly eyeing the property. The investment move also underscores Messi’s emotional ties to Barcelona, the city where he lived for more than two decades while representing FC Barcelona. This property acquisition adds to Messi’s growing portfolio of ventures beyond football. Previously, Messi owned a network of MiM Hotels managed by the global hospitality operator Meliá Hotels International. Santomera Bay, the investment firm handling the sale of the former shopping centre assets, described the transaction as a positive signal for the international market. They say Messi’s decision to reinvest in Barcelona’s property market reflects high confidence in the city’s prospects as a destination for premium property and high-value assets.
