Lion Parcel Says Packages Under 300 Grams Increasingly Dominate Online Shopping
The trend of online shopping is driving an increase in lightweight package deliveries in Indonesia. Various daily necessities, from fashion and personal care products to gadget accessories and documents, are increasingly being shipped with a weight of under 300 grams, following changes in consumer behaviour that prioritise practicality.
Lion Parcel Chief Marketing Officer Kenny Kwanto stated that the rise in lightweight package deliveries is also changing the needs of logistics services. According to him, many customers complain that shipping costs still refer to a minimum rate of one kilogram, even though the goods they send are much lighter.
‘Lightweight package deliveries are increasing, but many customers complain because they pay for one kilogram, which they feel is inefficient, with some even calling it paying for air. Seeing this need, Lion Parcel is introducing a new service called MINIPACK, specifically for lightweight package deliveries under 300 grams,’ Kenny said in a statement.
Lion Parcel’s internal data shows that several categories of goods most frequently sent by the public weigh under 300 grams. These include documents, pocket books, hijabs, socks, accessories such as necklaces and bracelets, as well as various personal care products like serums, sunscreen, and lipstick.
In addition, gadget accessories such as chargers, data cables, batteries, phone cases, and watches also fall into the lightweight package category that is widely purchased through online shopping platforms.
Kenny said that the more the public understands the characteristics of their goods, the better they can choose logistics services that suit their needs.
‘We want the public to be more aware that many products purchased daily actually fall into the lightweight package category. By choosing the appropriate service like MINIPACK, customers can enjoy more efficient shipping costs,’ he said.
For example, Kenny noted that a lightweight package delivery on the Jakarta-Makassar route using this service costs Rp23,000, which is about half the regular rate of Rp46,000 per kilogram. Meanwhile, a Jakarta-Medan delivery costs Rp18,000, lower than the regular rate of Rp36,000 per kilogram.
According to Kenny, the trend of purchasing products in single units, especially in the beauty and personal care as well as gadget accessories categories, means the need for lightweight package delivery services continues to increase. Through this service, Lion Parcel hopes the public can obtain delivery options that are more in line with the actual weight of their goods, so that logistics costs become more efficient without reducing service quality.
