Logistics company Lion Parcel has launched a new delivery service called Minipack, specifically designed for lightweight packages with a maximum weight of 300 grams. The service aims to meet the needs of consumers and businesses who have previously had to pay shipping costs based on a minimum one-kilogram tariff, even when their goods weigh far less.

The launch took place in Bandung on Thursday (25/6). Bandung was chosen due to its growing online trade and creative economy activity, particularly in the fashion, accessories, and various local product sectors, which typically involve lightweight items.

Previously, shipments weighing under one kilogram were generally still subject to the minimum one-kilogram rate. This situation was often lamented by customers because the cost paid was not proportional to the actual weight of the goods shipped.

Lion Parcel Chief Marketing Officer Kenny Kwanto stated that Minipack is designed to deliver a fairer pricing system for customers, especially MSMEs and online sellers who regularly ship lightweight products. “Bandung is a highly relevant city to introduce Minipack because we see the growing potential for lightweight product shipping activity from MSMEs and online sellers in this region,” Kenny said.

He explained that through this service, customers can pay shipping costs according to the actual weight of their goods without having to follow the one-kilogram tariff rounding. “Through Minipack, Lion Parcel wants to provide fair pricing so they can pay shipping costs according to their actual delivery needs. This way, shipping costs can be more affordable, and business owners can continue to strengthen their competitiveness through more efficient logistics solutions,” he stated.

Kenny explained that Minipack still offers the same service standards as Lion Parcel’s regular service, with delivery times ranging from two to three days. The presence of this service is also expected to help reduce logistics costs, which have been a consideration for consumers when shopping online. As an illustration, the Bandung-Makassar shipping route, which costs Rp48,000 per kilogram on the regular service, can be reduced by up to 50 per cent through Minipack. Customers only need to pay Rp24,000 for lightweight package delivery according to the service terms.

Meanwhile, Lion Parcel Chief Retail Officer Febri Andika said Minipack was born from feedback frequently conveyed by customers through Lion Parcel’s network of agents in various regions, including Bandung. “We see that customers are increasingly looking for more affordable options without having to pay the minimum one-kilogram tariff. This has been one of the inputs we received from our agent network, which is one of Lion Parcel’s main touchpoints in serving customers,” Febri said.

According to him, demand for lightweight package delivery services continues to rise along with the growth of e-commerce activity and increasing transactions for small-sized products such as documents, accessories, and local creative products. Febri added that Minipack can be accessed through more than 7,000 Lion Parcel agents spread across Indonesia or via the official Lion Parcel application. The service is also supported by Cash on Delivery (COD) and COD Ongkir payment methods. “For shipments using the COD Ongkir method, customers can enjoy the ‘Pay Shipping on the Spot, Don’t Pay If It’s Late’ programme,” he said.

Lion Parcel currently claims to reach 99 per cent of domestic territory, supported by access to more than 350 Lion Group flights. This infrastructure enables the company to maintain the speed and quality of delivery services to various regions. According to Febri, the presence of Minipack complements Lion Parcel’s existing service portfolio, ranging from REGPACK, JAGOPACK, BOSSPACK, VIPPACK, INTERPACK, to the heavy goods delivery services BIGPACK and BIGPACK FAST. “The presence of Minipack further completes Lion Parcel’s service portfolio, which is designed to answer the diverse delivery needs of the public and business owners throughout Indonesia,” Febri said. Through this innovation, Lion Parcel hopes to support the growth of MSMEs and online businesses by providing logistics services that are more efficient, affordable, and aligned with evolving market needs.
