SMEs and creative industry players now have an opportunity to reduce shipping costs for small items following the introduction of a special tariff for packages weighing under 300 grams. This scheme is expected to make shipping costs more proportional to the weight of the goods, thereby making products more competitive in the market.

Lion Parcel Chief Marketing Officer Kenny Kwanto noted that previously, shipments weighing less than one kilogram were still charged at the one-kilogram rate. This situation led to customers, particularly SMEs, paying for what was colloquially termed ‘air’.

“Our principle is transparency. So if you are sending a valuable item, declare it as it is so we in logistics can provide the appropriate marking,” Kenny said.

He explained that the new service, called Minipack, is designed for documents, accessories, cosmetics, and other lightweight products commonly sold by small business owners. The service can be accessed through Lion Parcel agents or the company’s application.

“This helps creative businesses optimise shipping costs and makes their products more competitive in the market,” he stated.

Kenny added that while Lion Parcel does not yet offer direct shipping services through marketplaces, the company maintains shipping security by implementing item-specific handling procedures. He urged consumers to provide accurate information about the goods being shipped so that the logistics handling process can be carried out properly.

In addition, Lion Parcel provides a tracking system that allows customers to monitor the position of their goods throughout the delivery process until they reach their destination.
