Lion Air responds

With regard to Susanti Agustini's letter published in The Jakarta Post on Sept. 30 titled Lion Air and safety, we want to clarify as follows.

* Susanti has apparently misunderstood the points contained in our letter pertaining to Quality Control as presented by Capt Ertata Lananggalih, in response to an earlier letter Lion Air toothless roar from Erik Meijaard. Susanti's misperception is understandable partly because the wording used in our letter was rather technical in nature.

* We deem it necessary to stress that the door of the airplane was not operated by a hydraulic system, and there was no problem whatsoever with that door. It is commonplace for the ground staff to be assisted by the stewardess in closing the airplane's door. If there is some problem with the door, the indicator light in the cockpit will come on, which would prevent the pilot from flying the aircraft.

* Also there was no problem with the communication device in the airplane. Our stewardess did not talk to the pilot (as believed by the passengers). The fact was that the stewardess was communicating with another stewardess in the other cabin.

* Furthermore all matters concerning safety measures are in compliance with the standard procedures certified by the Ministry of Transportation.
