Linknet Plants 5,000 Mangroves in Serang to Protect Coastline and Livelihoods

PT Link Net Tbk (LINK) has partnered with local residents, university students, schoolchildren, and green communities to plant 5,000 mangrove seedlings in Serang, Banten. The initiative, part of the company’s ‘New Home-Pass, New Tree’ programme, was held to commemorate World Mangrove Day on 26 July under the theme ‘Protecting Mangroves, Securing Future Generations’. The effort is designed to create a natural barrier protecting residential areas from abrasion, preserve local fishing livelihoods, and enhance the quality of life for coastal communities. The programme, launched in 2025, ensures that every expansion of Linknet’s home-pass network is matched with tree planting in its operational areas. In 2025, the company planted a total of 22,500 trees, comprising 13,500 mangroves and 9,000 terrestrial trees. ‘For Linknet, the spirit of We LINK the nation for better lives is realised not only through expanding digital connectivity infrastructure but also through actively protecting the earth,’ said Link Net President Director Kanishka Wickrama. He added that the company targets planting an estimated 50,000 trees across various strategic locations in Indonesia this year. Serang Mayor Budi Rustandi welcomed the initiative, stating that mangroves serve as guardians against abrasion and tidal flooding, provide habitats for marine life that support local fishermen, and absorb carbon up to five times more effectively than tropical forests. ‘Planting mangroves means we are investing in a future Serang City that is resilient to climate change,’ he said. Chief Corporate Secretary & Corporate Affairs Rininta Agustina noted the programme supports multiple Sustainable Development Goals, including strengthening coastal livelihoods, enhancing carbon absorption, restoring marine habitats, and building inclusive cross-sector partnerships. The initiative was implemented in collaboration with Pertamina Foundation.
