Linknet Invites Serang Community to Protect Coastline Through Mangrove Planting
Standing on the coastal mudflats with a warm sea breeze, the spirit of mutual cooperation enveloped the coastal community of Serang City. Together with local residents, university students, primary school children, and a local green community, PT Link Net Tbk (stock code: LINK) carried out a tangible environmental conservation action by planting 5,000 mangrove seedlings through its flagship ‘New Home-Pass, New Tree’ programme.
The activity was held to mark World Mangrove Day on 26 July, under the theme ‘Protecting Mangroves, Securing Future Generations’. More than just a ceremonial agenda, this initiative was designed with a humanist touch to build a natural fortress protecting residential areas from the threat of abrasion, safeguarding the livelihoods of local fishermen, and improving the quality of life for the coastal communities of Serang.
The ‘New Home-Pass, New Tree’ programme represents Linknet’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, first launched in 2025, where every expansion of homepass is balanced with tree planting in operational areas. In 2025, the programme resulted in the planting of a total of 22,500 trees, consisting of 13,500 mangroves and 9,000 terrestrial trees. Through this programme, Linknet ensures that every step of its digital connectivity network expansion is matched by the growth of new green shoots in nature, creating harmony between technological progress and environmental preservation.

The planting of 5,000 mangroves in Serang is part of our ongoing commitment, where this year Linknet is targeting an estimated 50,000 trees to be planted across various strategic points in Indonesia. The Serang City Government welcomed and appreciated the tangible commitment and initiative presented by Linknet for the coastal areas of Serang. ‘Mangroves are our guardians. They hold back abrasion, they dampen waves and tidal floods, they are home to fish, crabs, and marine life that are the source of livelihood for our fishermen. In fact, one hectare of mangrove can absorb four to five times more carbon than an ordinary tropical forest. Planting mangroves means we are investing in a resilient future for Serang City against climate change,’ said Budi Rustandi, Mayor of Serang. Budi also expressed his hope that such movements would continue to be promoted in Serang City. ‘Let us make mangroves a new identity and a source of pride for Serang City. From mangroves, we protect the environment, from mangroves we strengthen the fishermen’s economy, and from mangroves we bequeath hope to our children and grandchildren,’ he said.
To ensure the optimal implementation and maintenance of the mangroves in the field, Linknet partnered with the Pertamina Foundation as the programme’s implementing partner. ‘Pentahelix collaboration is the key to the success of this programme, where the government, businesses, academia, communities, and the media all participate. The Serang City Government provides policy support, Linknet and Pertamina Foundation act as initiators and implementers, university and school students are involved for environmental education, communities and coastal residents become the guardians of mangrove sustainability, and the media helps disseminate this collaborative spirit,’ stated Gusman Adiwardhana, Operation Director of Pertamina Foundation.
