Lindskog wins Pancasila Cup by one shot at 16 under

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

A birdie putt from some two meters from the cup on the final 18th for a 66 (33 33) and four-day total of 16-under 272 (68 71 67 66) was enough for Stephen A. Lindskog to grab the title and top cash prize of Rp 27,835,000 at the Pemuda Pancasila Cup IV at Matoa Nasional golf club in Ciganjur, South Jakarta, on Friday.

One shot behind for second place was overnight leader Maan Naasim after a round of 4-under 68 on Thursday for a total score of 273 (71 70 64 68). Ilyassyak, who tied at third on 10-under 206 with Lindskog and I Ketut Sugiartha, was third with four shots away from the champion with a 276 (71 68 67 70).

"Yes, I made it by coming from behind and by playing safe on the final day to reverse from one stroke behind Maan to one stroke victory over him," an elated Nigerian-born Swedish Lindskog said. "And for sure I got additional pocket money for my next four tournaments in the Asian PGA Tour."

Lindskog, who held a course record of 63 a few years ago at Matoa, fired a scorching seven birdies against two bogeys on Friday for a 66.

Lindskog, who has made Jakarta his home base for his Asian PGA Tour quest for the last eight years, has secured a Tour Card in the region and has made several attempts in the process. His most successful trial was two weeks ago when he managed to finish third in the US$250,000 Macau Open.

Defending champion China's Ziang Lian-wei retained the Macau Open title on Oct. 21, beating three-time major winner Nick Price of South Africa at the 5th extra hole.

Lindskog was jointly placed third by one shot with a 10-under 278 with Tsai Chi-huang of Taipei.

His next four tournaments in the Asian Tour will be a competition in China, followed by a Taiwan event then Hong Kong before closing it in Malaysia.

Lindskog, who on Friday opened the round with 10-under 206, bagged it with 4 birdies after a bogey in the 1st, firing another three more birdies for a 6-under 66 (33 33). Maan was only able to make a 4-under 68 (34 34) that came from 3 birdies and a deficit putt in the 6th for a 34 in the front nine. Maan went home with another 34 after firing 4 birdies against two bogeys for a 68.

"Stephen was able to play safe and he played better," commented Maan, who during his heyday played in several international events abroad, including the Dunhill Cup and Johnnie Walker Classic and the 8-man 4-legged country, the Johnnie Walker Supertour.
