Limiting AC Use and Encouraging Public Transport as DPR's Efficiency Strategy

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The House of Representatives (DPR) is one of the state institutions following up on President Prabowo Subianto’s directives regarding budget and resource efficiency. DPR Secretary General Indra Iskandar revealed that his side has issued policies related to this efficiency. The first is the restriction on electricity use in the Parliamentary Complex, which is maximally used until 6:00 PM WIB. “Lifts and escalators will be turned on from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time. After 6:00 PM, efficiency in the use/operation of lifts will be implemented by up to 70 percent,” said Indra to Kompas.com on Monday (30/3/2026). In addition to electricity, the DPR is also saving fuel oil (BBM) for vehicles of high-ranking officials, mid-level officials, primary officials, and administrative officials within the DPR. “Operational vehicles for employees are adjusted according to the scheduled WFH/WFA,” said Indra. Meanwhile, for DPR employees, Indra has instructed them to use public transport. “Employees are urged to reduce the use of private vehicles and switch to public transport,” said Indra. “Meetings conducted online cannot be provided with meeting refreshments,” said Indra. It is known that President Prabowo Subianto raised the issue of efficiency amid the potential for a Budget Revenue and Expenditure (APBN) deficit above 3 percent. The biggest pressure comes from the potential surge in oil prices following Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most vital oil shipping route, due to conflict in the Middle East. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that in the worst-case scenario without efficiency, the fiscal deficit could reach 4.06 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
