Lili Romli Says Boni Hargens' Book 'Political Science' Deserves to Be a Reference

Professor of Political Science, Lili Romli, assesses Boni Hargens’ book ‘Political Science’, written by the senior political analyst, as deserving to be a reference for comprehending political dynamics, both conceptually or theoretically, its application, and its relevance to politics in the rapidly developing digital era.

According to Prof Lili Romli, Boni Hargens’ book, with the full title ‘Political Science from the Classical Era to the Digital Age’, is not only recommended for reading by undergraduate to postgraduate students but is also suitable for political actors, both those within democratic institutions and outside them.

This was stated by Prof Lili Romli at the launch and book review of Boni Hargens’ ‘Political Science from the Classical Era to the Digital Age’ at the Aryaduta Hotel, Jakarta, on Saturday, 11 April 2026.

At the launch event, other speakers included BRIN researcher Syafuan Rozi and political observer Karyono Wibowo.

“Congratulations to Boni Hargens on the publication of this Political Science book. Reading this book feels like having covered several courses because it comprehensively discusses political science, from its history, approaches to political science, political systems, to the influence of technology on political science,” said Prof Lili Romli, quoted on Sunday, 12 April 2026.

Through his book, said Prof Lili Romli, Boni Hargens refutes negative accusations against politics, which is generally considered bad, dirty, full of tricks and deception just to seize power. Boni, with various references from philosophers and political scientists, such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle to modern and contemporary philosophers, said Prof Lili Romli, shows that politics is a virtue.

“In Boni Hargens’ book, it is also shown that politics is a clear science, capable of predicting future events, and related to other sciences, even all aspects of our lives are politics. Therefore, Boni also discusses interesting history about politics in the digital era and its connection to intelligence science. For me, that is something contemporary, how politics in the digital era and how political science marries with intelligence science to secure national interests,” explained Prof Lili Romli.
