Like Vidi Aldiano, Children's Warm Character Can Be Formed from the "Tank of Affection"
The figure of singer Vidi Aldiano was widely known as a person who was warm, friendly, and full of empathy. Many people who had interacted with him regarded Vidi as a figure capable of making others feel valued and accepted. This character once again became the focus of public attention following his passing. Many friends and colleagues remembered Vidi as someone sincere in building relationships with others.
According to Vera Itabiliana Hadiwidjojo, a clinical child and adolescent psychologist from the Psychology Institute at the University of Indonesia (UI), a warm character such as that displayed by Vidi can actually be formed from childhood onwards. The concept describes children’s emotional needs that must be fulfilled through attention and affection from those closest to them, especially family.
“Children who have a full tank of affection typically will be more confident, think positively about others, and find it easier to demonstrate empathy and care,” said Vera, as cited by ANTARA on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
She explained that children who grow up in an environment that provides emotional safety tend to have better social abilities. When children feel accepted, valued, and loved for who they are, they will more easily understand and feel the emotions of others.
This can be achieved through providing attention, spending time together, and showing affection through touch and positive words.
Vera emphasised that not only material support is important for children. Parents also need to demonstrate empathy in daily interactions, for instance by listening to the child’s stories and understanding what they feel.
“Children accustomed to being treated empathetically will learn to be empathetic towards others as well,” said Vera.
However, Vera noted that this can still be achieved through consistent quality time every day. She recommended that parents set aside approximately 10 to 15 minutes daily to truly be present with their child without distraction from gadgets or work.
During such moments, parents can give their full attention when the child speaks, provide hugs or warm touch, and convey appreciation and positive words that make the child feel valued.
With such an approach, children will grow with emotional security. This sense of security is the important foundation for the development of warm, caring, and empathetic character. It is precisely such character traits that are remembered from the figure of Vidi Aldiano, who during his lifetime was known to bring warmth to those around him.
