Like Rock Climbing: Photos of Workers Suspended to Clean Monas

Workers cleaned the body of the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/7/2026).

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is currently carrying out an intensive cleaning of the monument’s body. The cleaning of the obelisk is being undertaken by trained professionals using rope access methods.

The effort is intended to keep Monas a representative and comfortable public tourist destination while preserving its beauty, cleanliness and sustainability.

The project also involves experts from the Cultural Heritage Conservation Centre (PKCB) to ensure the maintenance of the capital’s icon complies with conservation principles for historic buildings.

The specialised cleaning of the monument’s body is a long-term project planned to run for approximately half a year.

This is because the cleaning technique must be carried out in a measured manner, taking into account the safety of the building materials, which are decades old.

Although the cleaning work is under way, visitor services at Monas continue to operate as usual. Visitors can still enjoy the Monas area, provided they follow the instructions of staff for the comfort and safety of all.
