Like a Secret Base: Drug Syndicate in Samarinda's Gang Langgar Uses Snipers and Special Codes

The drug-infested neighbourhood of Gang Langgar in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, possesses a security system resembling a secret operational base. The drug syndicate, which has operated in the area for a long period, is described as extremely elusive and difficult for authorities to apprehend due to its network of lookouts and specialised communication equipment.

These shocking facts were revealed after the Narcotics Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) dismantled the drug distribution network in the area, resulting in the arrest of 13 suspects. Bareskrim revealed that before reaching the primary methamphetamine sales location in Block F of Gang Langgar, buyers must pass dozens of lookouts, referred to as ‘snipers’, stationed along the route.

‘Along the road before reaching Block F, there are 21 lookouts holding handheld radios (Handy Talkies) to guide users intending to purchase drugs at the Gang Langgar Block F stall,’ stated the Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, on Monday, 18 May 2026.

These lookouts are reportedly spread across several strategic points to monitor the movement of strangers and security personnel attempting to enter the area. During the night, the number of lookouts is even increased to ensure that drug trafficking activities remain undisturbed.
