Lights out in Kupang

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The state-owned electricity company PT PLN here were left confounded yesterday with only an apology to offer when lights went out in Kupang five times the previous night.

"It was completely beyond our control," PLN Kupang branch chief Yono Haryono said. "We apologize for what happened."

According to Antara, Yono blamed a faulty oil pressure valve at the Tenau diesel power generator for the blackout.

"Our operators have tried to the best of their ability but the damage was beyond our control so the blackout occurred," he explained.

He said the faulty equipment had been repaired and should function normally. (mds)
