Lightning kills school girl

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Three girls were struck by lightning on Saturday while walking home from school. One of them, 15-year- old Triaswati, died from severe burns.

The other two, Erni Masitoh, 17, and Diana Susilowati, 15, escaped with minor burns and are currently undergoing treatment at the local hospital.

A witness, Ahmad Pujiono, told The Jakarta Post that the three had decided against going home because of the poor weather. They waited at the school until the rain stopped.

They had barely left the building when a bolt of lightning struck them.(wah/mds)
