"Light Up the Future" Open Day Programme Strengthens China-Indonesia Relations and Collaboration
China Huadian Corporation Ltd (CHD) recently organised a series of Open Day activities titled “Light Up the Future” at several of its projects in Indonesia, namely the Batam Power Plant, Celukan Bawang Power Plant, and Bukit Asam Power Plant. Focusing on energy education, these activities combined cooperation between industry and academia, cultural exchange, and community engagement. Through this programme, teachers, students, and university undergraduates, alongside local community representatives, visited project sites to learn about CHD’s operational activities. The initiative also reflects CHD’s commitment to serving local communities and supporting social development.
At the Batam Power Plant, Energy Engineering students from the Batam State Polytechnic visited the power generation facilities to directly observe the entire operational and maintenance process of the power units. Technical experts from China also shared insights regarding industry trends, required professional skills, and various local-level corporate social responsibility programmes. Through these steps, CHD is strengthening practical cooperation between the business world and educational institutions to develop talent within the energy sector.
Meanwhile, the Bukit Asam Power Plant hosted more than 30 local teachers and students who toured several key facilities, including the turbine hall and the central control room. During the visit, participants received explanations regarding the electricity generation process and the ultra-low emission technology implemented at the project.
In conjunction with Indonesia’s National Awakening Day, the Celukan Bawang Power Plant organised electricity-themed educational activities for students from five schools located near the project site. Through easy-to-understand presentations, participants learned about the processes of power generation and transmission, were introduced to environmental management achievements at the power plant, and observed various rare bird species living in the area. Chinese employees also performed traditional Chinese paper-cutting art to strengthen the cultural exchange between Indonesia and China.
