Light rain forecast to dominate Indonesia's weather at start of week
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that weather in most major Indonesian cities will be dominated by light rain at the start of the week. “For the western part of Indonesia, be aware of the potential for light rain in Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkalpinang, Padang, Bengkulu, Serang, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Tanjung Selor, and Samarinda,” said BMKG forecaster Puji Sibuea in a weather broadcast in Jakarta on Monday. In addition to the potential for light rain, Puji also mentioned the possibility of hotter weather to thick cloud cover in several other western regions. Areas forecast to experience clear, cloudy to thick cloudy weather include Palembang, Jakarta, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Banjarmasin. He added further weather details, noting a warning for potential smoke or fog in Banda Aceh, and hazy conditions in the Jambi and Bandar Lampung areas. Turning to observations in the eastern region, BMKG has again issued a warning regarding varying rainfall intensity from light to moderate. “For the eastern part of Indonesia, be aware of the potential for moderate rain in Mamuju and the potential for light rain in Palu, Jayapura, and Merauke,” he said, detailing the eastern region’s weather. Meanwhile, clear, cloudy to thick cloudy conditions are likely to colour the skies over most other eastern regions, including Denpasar, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, and Jayawijaya. Not only rain and clouds, BMKG also forecasts the potential for smoke or fog in the cities of Mataram and Nabire, as well as hazy conditions in the Manokwari area. Puji reminded that this forecast is a general overview of today’s weather.
