Light Rain Expected to Drench Batam Until Early Morning, BMKG Warns

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through the Hang Nadim Class I Meteorology Station in Batam has forecast that light rain and cloudy conditions will dominate the weather in Batam City on Friday, 17 July 2026. The public is urged to remain vigilant as weather conditions can change rapidly. Based on BMKG forecasts, light rain is expected to occur in Batam from the morning, continuing into the afternoon. Cloudy conditions are predicted for the evening, with light rain likely to return in the early hours of Saturday, 18 July 2026. A forecaster from the station explained that the conditions are influenced by high air humidity in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Riau Islands region, which supports more significant cloud growth and rain formation. Generally, the weather in the Riau Islands is forecast to be cloudy with the potential for localised light to moderate rain. For Batam City specifically, light rain is expected at 07:00 WIB with temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius and humidity reaching 92 percent. Winds are blowing from the southeast at a speed of approximately 11 kilometres per hour. Light rain is forecast to continue at 10:00 WIB, with temperatures rising to around 29 degrees Celsius and humidity at 73 percent. By 13:00 WIB, the weather is expected to turn overcast with temperatures reaching 31 degrees Celsius and humidity around 72 percent, though light rain may return by 16:00 WIB. Evening conditions at 19:00 WIB are predicted to be cloudy with temperatures of 28 degrees Celsius, continuing into the night. Light rain is likely to reappear on Saturday around 04:00 WIB, with temperatures around 26 degrees Celsius and humidity reaching 97 percent. The BMKG forecaster reminded the public not to ignore the potential for weather changes, especially during outdoor activities. Residents are advised to be aware of the possibility of moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, particularly in the Bintan, Karimun, and Anambas Islands regencies during the morning and afternoon. Although Batam is not the primary area of concern, the public is still urged to exercise caution regarding localised rain that can appear suddenly. Motorists are advised to reduce speed during rainfall as roads become slippery and visibility may decrease. The public is also advised to avoid open areas, large trees, billboards, and electricity poles if rain is accompanied by lightning or strong winds. Sea transport users, fishermen, and those active in coastal areas are encouraged to check weather information before travelling, as changes in wind direction and speed can affect water conditions around Batam.
